Masters Admissions

Welcome to the Division of Graduate Studies at Jackson State University. Our goal is to assist you through the application process and provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision about your education.

We offer a wide range of graduate programs in various fields of study. Our programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced and ever-changing job market.

The application process varies depending on the level of study and program you are applying for. We recommend that you review the requirements for your desired program, and contact the Office of Admissions with any questions you may have.

For graduate programs, the application process typically includes:

  • Submitting an online application
  • Sending official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Sending test scores (GRE, GMAT, etc. for graduate programs)
  • Meeting any additional program-specific requirements

Masters Admissions

While each Master’s-level program may have additional requirements for admission, the Graduate School specifies the following admission requirements for the Masters-level:

STEP ONE

Submit the following admission credentials to the Graduate School

  • All applicants must submit one (1) official copy of transcripts from all 4 year regionally accredited colleges and universities attended. Community College transcripts are not required. Official transcripts can be sent electronically using escript, Parchment or another approved electronic service to gradtranscript@nfmy6688.com, or by mail to:

  • PLEASE NOTE- Every application submitted requires official copies of transcripts from each college and university attended.
  • Students with International transcripts: Please visit the International Admissions web page for additional information regarding transcripts.
  • The Graduate School requires a 3.00 GPA (on a 4.00 Scale) at the undergraduate level or a Masters’ degree. ( See individual programs for additional GPA information).
  • Departmental requirements vary by program. Specific requirements are listed in the Graduate Catalog or you may contact the program directly.
  • All applicants must submit a $25.00 application fee. Applications will not be processed without payment of the application fee. Payment is made by  using a credit/debit card at the time of application.  Application payments are processed as part of the application.
  • International applicants must submit satisfactory TOEFL or IELTS scores to the Division of Graduate Studies. Click International Graduate Student for more information.
  • International applicants must also file a Certified Declaration of Financial Support with the university. Please consult our International Programs Office for additional information.

  • The student should consult the major department for additional requirements.

Regular status is awarded to students who have minimum GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 Scale) at the undergraduate level.

Conditional status may be assigned to students who possess a cumulative GPA of at least 2.50 – 2.99 at the undergraduate level (on 4.0 scale). Students must earn regular status in the first semester of full-time enrollment (i.e. a minimum of 9 credit hours during the semester of enrollment), or in the first 12 credit hours of part-time enrollment by acquiring a GPA of 3.00 in the first 12 hours of graduate work (i.e. 3.00 semester GPA for both the first and next semester). During the period of “conditional status”, students may not earn a letter grade of “C” or lower.

STEP TWO 

Immunization Requirement

  • All applicants must submit immunization records showing proof of immunization compliance for measles and rubella, unless born prior to 1957, to:  JSU, Health Services, P.O. Box 17097, Jackson, MS  39217.  Telephone:  (601) 979-2260. Click here for additional information.

Departmental/Program Requirements (Consult program for details)  
 
  • Department/program application if required
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • A written statement of purpose
  • All required national examination scores.(GRE, GMAT or MAT)
  • Meet the minimum GPA requirement of the desired program.

STEP THREE

  • Master of Public Policy and Administration (MPPA)
  • M.S. in Communicative Disorders
  • M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling
  • M.A. in History
  • M.A.  in Urban and Regional Planning.

General Priority Application Deadlines

Programs may have specific deadlines and
admit only once a year.

Fall – March 1
Summer – March 15
Spring – October 15
